History

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is the former River Oaks home of Houston philanthropist Ima Hogg, designed by architect John F. Staub and built from 1927 to 1928. Hogg assembled an extensive collection of American furniture and paintings and created a series of garden "rooms" between the 1930s and 1950s. In 1957 she donated the 14-acre estate to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; it opened to the public in 1966 and now holds 2,600 objects in 28 period rooms.
