History
Rienzi is the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's house museum for European decorative arts, set on a 4.4-acre property in River Oaks. It was the home of philanthropists Carroll Sterling Masterson and Harris Masterson III, designed by prominent Houston architect John Staub and completed in 1954 on land the couple bought from Ima Hogg in 1952. The Mastersons gave Rienzi to the MFAH in 1991, and it opened to the public in 1999, displaying their collection of European furniture, paintings, porcelain, and English ceramics.
