History

This marker honors David Porter Richardson, who served as private secretary to Sam Houston, first president of the Republic of Texas. Richardson died in the young city of Houston on August 12, 1837, and is buried in Founders Memorial Cemetery in the city's Fourth Ward. The State of Texas erected the marker in 1936 as part of the Texas Centennial commemorations.
