Texas Chiropractic College was founded in San Antonio in September 1908 by J. N. Stone, a physician who had also trained in chiropractic, and for its first decade it held classes in offices on West Commerce Street downtown. The school survived decades in which Texas did not legally recognize chiropractic, a status that changed only with the state's 1949 licensing law. Needing more room, the college left San Antonio in 1965 for an 8-acre site in Pasadena near Houston, dedicating its new home that August, and bought another 10 acres the following year. Today TCC, often cited as the fourth-oldest chiropractic college in the country, trains Doctor of Chiropractic students at its Spencer Highway campus.
