History

The Whetstone-Lancaster House at 1511 Colorado Street in Marshall takes its name from two families important to Harrison County's founding. Peter Whetstone was an early landowner who in 1841 offered property to help secure Marshall as the county seat, while C. G. Lancaster was an architect associated with the county courthouse. The two-story frame dwelling is recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
