History

Weinert Cemetery serves the town of Weinert in northern Haskell County, a stop on the Wichita Valley Railroad that was named for state senator Ferdinand C. Weinert of Seguin. No town existed on the old Ferris Ranch land until the railroad arrived in 1906, and the community weathered a damaging 1909 storm and a 1910 fire before reaching a population of about 500 by 1940. The cemetery on FM 1720 holds the graves of these railroad-era farming families.
