History

Highland Cemetery lies just north of Stamford, the town organized in February 1900 where Haskell and Jones counties meet. The cemetery opened the same year, with its earliest known burials recorded in October and December of 1900, and it has since grown into one of the region's largest, with roughly six thousand graves. It carries a Historic Texas Cemetery designation recognizing its place in the community's history.
