History
Butler Cemetery is a family and pioneer burial ground near Driftwood in Hays County, on land once part of a tract that J. C. Johnson obtained in 1855 from Charles Travis, son of Alamo commander William B. Travis. The Reece and Lucy (Meeks) Butler family used the site as a resting place for family, friends, and early settlers, the earliest marked grave being that of young Ora L. Cannon, who died in September 1872. The active Butler Cemetery Association maintains the grounds.
