History

The John Shary Building in Mission was completed in 1939 for John H. Shary, the "Father of the Texas Citrus Industry," to designs by San Antonio architect Harvey P. Smith. The two-story Spanish Colonial Revival building, with an exposed tile roof and clipped eaves, was built on the site of town founder John Conway's business offices and later served as Mission's city hall. It is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register.
