History
The Border Theater at 905 North Conway Boulevard in Mission opened on April 3, 1942, with a Roy Rogers film, built for Rio Grande Valley theater owners Robert and Dell Smith to designs by Dallas architect William J. Moore. It is a rare well-preserved example of Pueblo Revival theater architecture and was the first Valley theater with full air conditioning, with interior murals painted by Dallas artist E. Risser. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
