History

Mission Catholic Cemetery in Mission was developed in 1949 by Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on roughly 11.4 acres acquired from Isidora Cavazos, just south of the older San Jose Cemetery. San Jose, the city's oldest cemetery, had been founded about 1916 on land the Cavazos family bequeathed to the Oblate-founded parish. Both cemeteries were designated Historic Texas Cemeteries in 2026.
