History

Ridgeway Cemetery is a lasting feature of the Ridgeway community, located about ten miles west of Sulphur Springs and named for a pioneer family and for its position on a drainage ridge between White Oak Creek and the Sulphur River. A store opened in 1887 to serve a railroad construction crew, and a post office followed in 1888; by 1890 the village had two general stores, several mills and gins, and roughly a hundred residents. The cemetery documents more than six hundred burials from the community's long history.
