History

Brashear Cemetery lies in the Brashear community of west-central Hopkins County, south of Interstate 30 on FM 2653. It was established in 1898 when G. W. Mahoney bought the former Wise Ranch, subdivided it into farms, laid out the townsite, and donated land for a school, a church, and this cemetery. The town was named for Joseph Brashear, who surveyed it, and the cemetery holds well over a thousand graves.
