History
Hangar 25 Air Museum occupies a restored World War II-era hangar at the former Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring. The field opened in April 1942 as Big Spring Army Air Field, training bombardiers, and was reactivated during the Korean War and renamed Webb Air Force Base in 1952 for Big Spring native Lt. James L. Webb; it trained pilots until closing in 1977. A restoration committee formed in 1995, and the 24,000-square-foot museum was dedicated on May 31, 1999.
