History

Lolita Cemetery serves the community of Lolita in southern Jackson County, on the Lavaca River near the site of Philip Dimitt's 1830 trading post. The townsite was laid out in 1909 along the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway and named for Lolita Reese, a granddaughter of Texas Revolution veteran Charles Keller Reese. The cemetery is the burial ground for this small farming and ranching community, whose population peaked in the mid-twentieth century.
