History
This Jasper County house is associated with Andrew Farney Smyth, an early settler, soldier, and Angelina River riverman. Around 1850 Smyth built a T-shaped frame house with an open central hall toward the center of his property, and tradition holds that it incorporated timbers salvaged from the keelboat Jasper. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
