History
The SMS Building was constructed in 1928 as headquarters of the Swenson Land & Cattle Company (the SMS Ranches), incorporated in 1926 and established in Stamford in 1927. Designed by architects William Nichol and George F. Campbell, the one-story classical building used local Lueders gray limestone detailed with an arcade of Tuscan pilasters. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 24, 1986 as part of the Stamford Multiple Resource Area.
