History

The historic Kendall County Courthouse in Boerne was built as a single-story limestone building in 1870 on land donated by surveyor John James, using limestone from local quarries, to designs by Philip Zoeller and J. F. Stendebach. A second story was added in 1886 by Charles Buckel, and architect Alfred Giles was contracted to add the Romanesque Revival front facade in 1909. The courthouse served until 1998, when a new courthouse was built across the street, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (with the 1887 jail) in 1980, having been designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1970.
