History
The Museum of Western Art in Kerrville opened on April 23, 1983 as the Cowboy Artists of America Museum, founded by collectors including cattle breeder L. D. Brinkman and King Ranch heir Robert R. Shelton to honor living American Western artists. The building was designed by architect O'Neil Ford, a pioneer of the Southwestern style. Its collection carries on the tradition of Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell, and True West Magazine named it the nation's top Western art museum for 2025.
