History
Designed by architect Jules Leffland, the John B. Ragland Mercantile Company Building was completed in 1909 at 201 E. Kleberg Avenue in Kingsville, replacing a small 1904 frame store started by John Ragland. The Italianate-influenced brick-and-limestone building later passed to the King Ranch, which remodeled it in 1950 and installed South Texas's first escalator; it now houses the King Ranch Saddle Shop. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
