History
The Truscott Cemetery serves the ranching community of Truscott in northern Knox County, first settled around 1880 as "China Lake" before it was renamed for local pioneer J. J. Truscott. In 1908 landowner John H. Westbrook deeded five acres to a group of trustees for one dollar, on the condition that the tract be kept as a community burial ground, and the cemetery today holds several hundred graves. When a 1907 fire destroyed much of the original town, the settlement moved about a mile to reach the new Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway, but the cemetery endured as the community's landmark.
