History

The Epperson-McNutt House in Jefferson was built about 1872 for Benjamin H. Epperson, an East Texas lawyer and politician, possibly to designs by architect Arthur Gilman. The Victorian home features Italian marble mantels and an attached servants' wing. Dr. Walter S. McNutt bought it in 1941 and taught Jefferson College classes in its parlors; it was listed on the National Register in 1969.
