History

Lower Willow Creek Cemetery sits on the north bank of the Llano River near the mouth of Lower Willow Creek in Mason County, in an area settled largely by German immigrants beginning in the early 1850s. Circuit-riding Methodist minister C. A. Grote began serving families along the Llano in 1852, and the Lower Willow Creek Methodist Church, a rock building, was raised across the creek from the cemetery in 1868; the earliest known burial dates to 1854.
