History

The Luther Hotel in Palacios was built in 1903 as the Bay View Hotel by the Texas Rice Development Company to serve rice farmers and ranchers, and was designed by Victoria architect Jules Leffland. In 1904 the building was moved to its present bayfront location, where wings and a roughly 300-foot veranda dubbed the 'longest front porch in Texas' were added. It was busiest during World War II, hosted celebrity guests, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
