History
The Steinbach Haus is an Alsatian half-timbered house originally built between about 1618 and 1648 in Wahlbach, in the Sundgau region of Alsace, France. It was given to Castroville—founded in 1844 by Henri Castro with Alsatian settlers—as a gift from the people of Alsace; students and faculty of an agricultural college in Rouffach dismantled, shipped, and reconstructed it, and it opened to the public in 2002. Furnished with donated Alsatian pieces, it now serves as Castroville's visitor center and a cultural museum.
