History

San Andres Cemetery is the surviving remnant of San Andres, a community on the San Gabriel River about eight miles northwest of Rockdale that was laid out in the early 1850s after being considered as a permanent Milam County seat. Its post office operated from 1852 to 1877, and area residents built a Methodist church in 1884 on land donated by Henry Cravy; by the late 20th century only the cemetery remained.
