History
Fernland Historical Park in downtown Montgomery gathers some of the oldest surviving log structures in Texas, several built in the 1820s and 1830s. Its buildings include Bear Bend, a two-story log hunting cabin associated with Sam Houston, the 1830 Jardine Cabin, and the Republic-era Arnold-Simonton House. The structures were located, restored, and relocated by preservation architect Carroll Tharp and his wife Mae, and the park is operated in partnership with the City of Montgomery and Sam Houston State University.
