History

Montgomery Memorial Cemetery grew from the churchyard of a Methodist congregation that the Rev. Isaac Strickland organized in January 1839, whose members built a log meetinghouse on land donated by the founders of the town of Montgomery. Burials began in the 1840s and include veterans of the War of 1812, the Texas Revolution, the Mexican War, and the Civil War, along with early pioneers and state and county officials.
