History
Rocky Branch, on U.S. 259 about five miles northeast of Daingerfield, took its name from a sawmill and gristmill established in the late 1870s. The community's earliest church, Spring Hill Primitive Baptist, dated to the 1850s, and a post office operated from 1890 to 1904; by 1915 the settlement had about 100 residents, a store, and a sawmill. Over the years Rocky Branch supported mills, a cotton gin, a broom factory, a school (1879-1943), and community organizations before its population declined.
