The current Nueces County Courthouse at 901 Leopard Street in Corpus Christi opened for business on August 1, 1977, replacing the county's abandoned 1914 courthouse. Ground was broken on the roughly $19.6 million project in 1974, and the eleven-story, cream-colored building was designed by a joint venture of four architectural firms in what has been described as a neo-Formalist adaptation of the Baroque, with undulating walls and oversized oval window surrounds. The courthouse anchored a redevelopment effort along the Leopard Street corridor and continues to host most of the county's court proceedings.
