History
The Panola County Courthouse in Carthage was dedicated in 1953, a Modern-style brick building designed by architect Preston M. Geren and set two blocks west of the old courthouse square. It succeeded a series of earlier courthouses, including a peeled-pine-log building of 1849, an 1853 brick structure, and an ornate three-story Gothic Revival courthouse completed in 1885 to designs by architect John Joseph Emmett Gibson.
