History

Boynton Cemetery stands beside the road in the Long Branch area of southwestern Panola County and takes its name from the Moses Boynton family, early settlers of the district. A granite marker placed inside the gate in 1989 memorializes 'Aunt Annie, slave of Moses Boynton,' who died about 1860 and is thought to have been the first person buried here, along with other enslaved people interred at the site. The cemetery also holds graves of the Boynton, Hambrick, Arnold, and Whitaker families.
