History
Jumbo Cemetery serves the dispersed community of Jumbo, on State Highway 315 about seventeen miles southwest of Carthage in southwestern Panola County, which was settled by planters before the Civil War. James C. Brady established a gin, store, and gristmill there by 1885 and secured a post office in 1888, and by 1896 Jumbo had a school and Baptist and Methodist churches. The post office closed in 1912 and the school consolidated with Gary's in the 1940s, but the cemetery, surveyed by the Panola County Historical & Genealogical Association in 1998, still marks the site.
