History
The Bivins House (now the Bivins Library and Amarillo Chamber of Commerce) is a Georgian/Colonial Revival brick mansion built about 1904-05 for cattle baron Lee Bivins, featuring a two-story portico, leaded glass, bay windows, and limestone trim. Bivins was among the largest individual cattle ranchers in the world and served as Amarillo's mayor from 1925 until his death in office in 1929; his widow, Mary Elizabeth Bivins, bequeathed the residence to the city. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1965 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
