History

The Texas Air & Space Museum in Amarillo traces its origins to a group of aviation enthusiasts who formed a museum at Tradewind Airport in 1989. In 1997 it moved into the historic English Field terminal at the city's airport—buildings that served as Amarillo's commercial air terminal from 1929 to 1972—but closed in 2007 amid maintenance costs. Renamed the Texas Air & Space Museum, it reopened in 2011 at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport with aircraft including a P-51D Mustang and a de Havilland Caribou.
