History
The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo celebrates the world's most popular horse breed and the people behind it. The American Quarter Horse Association formed in 1940 and made Amarillo its headquarters in 1946; the Hall of Fame was established in 1982, and museum construction began in 1989, opening in the early 1990s. The collection holds more than 600 artifacts—paintings, sculptures, photographs, and tack—alongside an archive established in 1989 to document the breed's role in the nation's development.
