History

Holy Cross Cemetery is a Catholic burial ground in Refugio tied to the Our Lady of Refuge parish, successor to Mission Nuestra Senora del Refugio. That mission, founded in 1793 as the last Spanish mission in Texas and moved to present-day Refugio in 1795, gave rise to the town, whose Catholic community has maintained cemeteries such as Holy Cross for generations.
