Built in 1909 at 204 N. 8th Street, the Ballinger Carnegie Library is a vernacular Classical Revival building distinguished by a two-story portico; after construction began as a single story, plans were revised to add a second-floor auditorium. It is one of only five of the 32 Carnegie libraries built in Texas that still serve as public libraries, and during World War II its auditorium was used as a ballroom for the Army-Navy Club to entertain cadets from nearby Harmon Field. The library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
