The Goodman-LeGrand House at 624 North Broadway in Tyler began in 1859 as a one-story, four-room house called Bonnie Castle, built for its first owner, Samuel Gallatin Smith. A second story was added in 1880, and the LeGrand family remodeled it into its present Classical Revival form in 1926. When Sallie Goodman LeGrand died in 1939, she willed the house, land, and furnishings to the City of Tyler to be kept as a public museum, and the city took ownership in 1940; it is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
