The old Somervell County jail in Glen Rose was built in 1934 as a WPA project, replacing an 1884 stone jail on the same site; the jailer and his family lived on the lower floor while prisoners were held upstairs. Condemned as a jail by the state in the 1970s, the building was refurbished for county office space in 1991.
