History
Somervell County had never erected a memorial to its military veterans until 1961, when the American Legion's Oliver Wendell Buzan post began raising funds for one. Placed on the Glen Rose courthouse square in 1962, the six-foot pink Texas granite obelisk bears the names of the past wars in which county residents served, from the Confederacy through World War II.
