History

The LaBorde House on Main Street in Rio Grande City was built by French immigrant merchant Francois LaBorde, who bought the lots in 1896 and completed the Paris-designed complex of stores and residences in 1899. Blending French detailing with Spanish-Mexican courtyards and flat roofs, it reopened as a hotel after a 1982 restoration that won a San Antonio Conservation Society award. It was listed on the National Register in 1980.
