History
Texas and Pacific No. 610, nicknamed "Will Rogers," is a 2-10-4 "Texas" type steam locomotive built by the Lima Locomotive Works in June 1927 and the only surviving example of the T&P's I-1AR class. After its retirement, the railroad donated it in 1951 to publisher Amon G. Carter, who gave it to the Southwestern Exposition for display near the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth. Restored to operation in the 1970s, it pulled the American Freedom Train across Texas in 1976, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
