History

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame honors women of the American West who have shown extraordinary courage and pioneering spirit. It began in 1975 in the basement of the Deaf Smith County Library in Hereford, Texas, spearheaded by honoree Margaret Formby, and relocated to Fort Worth in 1994. Its 33,000-square-foot, roughly $21 million facility in the Fort Worth Cultural District opened on June 8, 2002, and the hall adds new honorees each year.
