History
Lonesome Dove Cemetery adjoins Lonesome Dove Baptist Church on the Southlake-Grapevine line, a congregation organized in February 1846 by twelve Baptist settlers and counted among the earliest documented churches in Tarrant County. The burial ground holds pioneers who arrived in the 1840s, including several of the county's first elected officials after its 1850 organization and state legislator Elihu Newton. Its cemetery association, which still meets yearly, is regarded as one of the oldest continuously operating institutions in Tarrant County.
