History

The H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports at UT Austin grew from the physical-culture book and magazine collection Terry Todd began gathering in the late 1950s; he and Jan Todd sought a permanent home after joining the university's kinesiology faculty in 1983. Funded by the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation and the Weider Foundation, the center opened in 2009 in a 27,500-square-foot facility on the fifth floor of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium's North End Zone. It is a leading archive and museum of sport and physical culture.
