History

The Chappell Hill Historical Society Museum occupies a red-brick 1926 school building erected on the site of the Chappell Hill Female College, chartered in 1852 as one of Texas' first colleges for women. Its six rooms of exhibits cover public and higher education, the cotton plantation economy, Polish immigrant culture, and local wartime service, and it holds the nation's largest collection of folk artist John Banks Swearingen's work.
