History

Smyrna Cemetery, near Winnsboro in northeastern Wood County, has served the surrounding rural community since at least 1873, the earliest year among its recorded burials, which run to 1972 and beyond. With well over 1,700 documented interments, it is among the larger country cemeteries in the county. Its gravestone records were preserved alongside those of the nearby Old Mount Zion Cemetery in the multi-volume survey Cemeteries of Wood County, Texas.
