History

Orth Cemetery is the last surviving trace of the community of Orth, south of Olney in north-central Young County. Founded in 1908 by Wichita Falls businessman J. A. Kemp and platted the next year as a whistle stop on the Wichita Falls and Southern Railway, Orth was named for railroad vice-president T. R. T. Orth. The town peaked near 200 residents and dwindled after the 1920s oil boom faded, until state maps showed only the cemetery.
