History

The current Zapata County Courthouse is among the newest in Texas, with ground broken in 2003 and the building completed in March 2006 to a design by Morgan Spear Associates. The three-story brick, stone and glass structure has a recessed upper floors, an arched brick portico and a red-tiled dome at the center of its roof. It replaced a 1953 courthouse; the county's 1901 courthouse at old Carrizo now lies submerged beneath the waters of Falcon Reservoir.
